New Single from ANNA MARIA — “Chomu” (“Why”)
ANNA MARIA recently recorded and presented a new single.
The sound stands out for its boldness, daring guitars and high-energy vocals.
ANNA MARIA:
“We write music without thinking in terms of musical genre.
‘Doloniamy’ (‘With Our Palms’), ‘My Skhovaiemos’ (‘We Will Hide’), ‘Znaiesh Ty’ (‘You Know’),
‘A Vin Chekav’ (‘And He Waited’) — these songs are quite different in style.
We are happy that in our songs we can express our thoughts and feelings and tell a certain story, without feeling or setting any boundaries.
That is how this single was written too. Interestingly, we usually write songs separately. This one, though, was written together.
The chorus of this song changed three times. That is, it was rewritten.
At first there was a lot of text. But the version that remained was the chorus with just one line — ‘why did I fall in love with you, of all people?’
We noticed that many folk songs begin with the word ‘why’: ‘why am I not a falcon,’ ‘why is the braid undone,’ ‘why didn't you come’...
We hope our song will become a ‘folk song’ too, because its theme and meaning are very close to people's hearts.
We also took part in the arrangement. That was usually the case with our other songs as well, but this time we had a very specific vision of how this single should sound. We wanted more attitude in the sound — guitars, punchy verses, and the kind of chorus you could really let loose to!
What's more, this is not the first time we have worked with Ivan Rozin as an arranger — he is a wonderful musician, he understands us, and he has great taste. That is very important. That is exactly how singles like ‘My Skhovaiemos,’ ‘Doloniamy,’ and now ‘Chomu’ come about. The mastering, as has become tradition, was done at 211 Recording Studio under the direction of Vitaliy Telezin. They are true masters of their craft.
As for the meaning of the song, it is a story that is probably familiar to each and every one of us. The gravitational pull of love, which you can neither explain nor overcome.
It is something not from the realm of logic, but from the realm of feelings. Where it comes from, nobody knows. But it is that ‘crazy dose’ you want to receive every single day. It's all about love!”
